Sugar complex:

NSL Sugars Ltd., has been established as a Sugar Industry complex with a view to provide value addition to co-products such as Bagasse, Molasses and Press mud (Filter cake) and diversification and widening of the base which is essential for the sustainability and viability of the Industry at all times.

Co-generation of Power:

An integrated Cogen Power Plant of capacity 26MW has been established as a forethought of the management pioneer in Power projects to strengthen its Sugar Plant activity as an additional source of revenue. After meeting captive power requirements the surplus is exported to State Electricity Board. The Plant is in successful operation ever since, its inception.

Sugar Plant:

The erection of the Sugar plant of 3500 TCD, was commenced during April-2003, and was ready for trial crushing within a span of just twelve months, by April-2004, and the commercial crushing commenced during July 2004. The Sugar Plant which was looked upon as a venture with doubts about its successful viability by many fellow industrialist has made a mark in the history of Sugar Industry within a short period of three years.  The Sugar plant which crushed 2.62 Lakh tones of Cane in its maiden season with a an average recovery of 8.86%, progressed further to crush 6 Lakh tones with an average recovery of 9.57%, during its second season and went on to achieve a record crushing of 12.2 Lakhs tones with an average recovery of 9.81%, just in the succeeding third season it crushed 10.94 Lakh Tonnes of cane with an average recovery of 9.72%.

Today NSL Sugars Ltd., is regarded as one of the model units by the entire Sugar Industry not only for its quantitative and financial achievements but also for its Technical abilities in maintaining parameters and bringing in improvements in many areas.

Perceiving the opportunity when there was dearth of Sugarcane the basic raw-material for the Sugar Industry allover the country, SCM Sugars Ltd., took a decision to Import Raw sugar and Process into White Sugar, in order to seize the Export opportunity by way of obligation towards Import of Raw sugar. This provided not only for en-cashing the market opportunities but also capacity utilization of the plant in the best possible way.  

Ethanol Plant:

The Company in accordance with its policy of diversification into co-products based Industries has taken up Ethanol project which has been commissioned and started marketing its final products. The capacity of the Ethanol plant is 45KLPD for manufacture of Ethanol from molasses, obtained after extraction of Sugar from the cane juice; as well provision is planned in future to use cane juice also directly for manufacture of Ethanol. This will provide for leverage to the Industry to maintain a balance between Sugar production and Ethanol depending upon the market conditions for these products and Ethanol will serve as an additional source of revenue for the company.

Bio & Vermi Compost:

The composting of the press mud obtained from Sugar plant blended with spent wash from distillery provides a good Bio-manure for agricultural lands. The management of the company with a view to offer to the  farmers the Bio-Compost prepared in a scientific way to meet the organic manure requirements of the soils and to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and their ill-effects on the soil and environment has launched Bio-compost under the Brand name “ Bhagya Bhoomi” which is also enriched with Bio-NPK and other valuable nutrients. As a further improved product the company is also engaged in making Vermi-compost using the Bio-Compost as the base and the same is being offered under the Brand name ”Dhanya Dharthi”. Both of these products have proven the quality and are in great demand from farmers. While, Bio-composting activity is on low key presently the full-fledged activity is expected in due course.

Environment Consciousness:

While, the company is engaged in so much of manufacturing and commercial activity every care is taken to control and minimize the pollution of environment. Not only the Govt., laid down measures for control of Air & Water pollution are followed but also the latest and improved technologies are adopted. The company has installed an efficient Effluent Treatment Plant which is being constantly monitored by the qualified personnel. The treated effluent is being used for the green belt area at the factory site and for irrigation by the surrounding agriculturists. Provision has been also made for reuse of the treated effluent for the Sugar plant. Like wise a treatment plant for treating and recycling of excess condensate water has been installed. As a result the quantum of effluent for treatment is also reduced to facilitate further zero discharge and demand on intake water is reduced with the recycling of treated excess condensate. All the necessary measures such as efficient and proper use of fuel in the boilers and ESP have been adopted to check the Air pollution.

Likewise to achieve Zero effluent discharge from Ethanol Plant also the latest technology of spraying and drying unit has been adopted to avoid environmental pollution and problems to the surrounding residents.   

To prevent environmental pollution green belt is developed not only in large stretches but, also in small patches wherever, vacant space is available at factory site, colony area etc.,

Clean Development Mechanism:

By adopting rigid Air Pollution Control measures the company has entered into Clean Development Mechanism and carbon credit agreement with international organizations. This not only ensures financial support to the company but also, contributes to the foreign exchange earnings for the country.

Present Status and Prospects:

Thus NSl Sugars (formerly SCm Sugars Ltd.) has made its marked place in the map of Sugar Industry and acquired an admirable position and will continue to add many more feathers to its cap under highly perceptive and enterprising management and efficient and able managerial, technical and operative personnel.
